Benjamin Afeli

Cancer Advocate

I am Benjamin Afeli, a Cancer Awareness Advocate driven by a deep personal mission: Saving lives through early detection.

My passion for cancer awareness was shaped by painful personal losses to cancer. These experiences exposed me early on to the devastating impact of late diagnosis and the silence that often surrounds cancer in our communities. From that moment, I knew I had to be part of the solution.

I spent several years working in National Health Service (NHS) hospitals in the United Kingdom within cancer departments. There, I witnessed firsthand how early detection, routine screenings, and timely intervention saved lives every day. These experiences strengthened my belief that cancer does not have to be a death sentence; when it is caught early, survival is possible.

Yet, the contrast with the reality back home in Nigeria was stark. Too many people were losing their lives not because treatment was unavailable, but because cancer was detected too late and awareness was limited. This moved me and compelled me to act.

Guided by this conviction, I founded Brit Equator Cancer Foundation, a platform dedicated to educating communities, providing free cancer screenings for early detection, and offering community-based support across Nigeria.

Through this work, I am committed to turning awareness into action and ensuring that no one is denied a fighting chance simply because they lacked information or access. Early detection saves lives and together, we can change the story of cancer in Nigeria!

About Brit Equator Foundation

Our History

Brit Equator Cancer Foundation was inspired by our founder’s personal journey and painful losses of Family and Friends to cancer from a young age.

After experiencing how accessible cancer screenings and treatments are in the Western world, he recognized the urgent need to bridge the gap in Nigeria, where awareness is low and access is costly.

The foundation was established to spark a movement for early detection, educating the public about Cancer symptoms, prevention and promoting Support across Nigeria, beginning with students and underserved communities.

Our Mission

To raise awareness and provide free or affordable cervical and prostate cancer screenings for undergraduates and rural communities across Nigeria— empowering people with knowledge, access, and hope through Awareness, Public Campaigns and Support Networks.

Our Vision

To create a future where early cancer detection is a norm in Nigeria, ensuring that no life is lost due to late diagnosis, lack of awareness or access.
